Jan Weyand
Bio
Jan Weyand is a Filmmaker, Director, DoP and Editor based near Cologne, Germany. He found his passion for creating and photography in his childhood. Everything started with an old camera that a friend and he found in the attic. They spent their entire summer holidays shooting a series that ended up with 184 episodes. Around the age of 14 he continued shooting fun sport films and sponsor tapes. After his A-levels, he studied architecture at the University of Siegen and started his filmmaking career. His background knowledge in architecture gives him the ability to consciously use light and shadow as a fundamental device in filmmaking. With a broad network of talented people he produces film content from commercials, documentaries, image films to music or event videos.
How would you describe your style?
Rough, edgy and moody.
What is your favourite Rotolight product?
So far the Aeos 2 but I haven’t tested all products.
What advice do you have for people getting into photography/videography?
Just do! Go out and shoot and teach yourself. Never stop, keep going.
Your favorite project you’ve worked on?
Next to all commercial jobs i’ve been on, I would say personal passion projects because I love to have all opportunities of creativity.
How is Rotolight different from other lights you’ve used?
The quality, the functions and the light output are definitely much better than others.
What does lighting mean to you in your work?
Lighting is everything.
