How would you describe your style?
I have two types of photography style.
Low-light creative photography and portrait photography.
I know what you’re thinking. “He’s an ambassador of Rotolight but yet he says his style is low light”. Not every shot has to be on full or even half power, so during my low light shooting I really get down and finicky, to the individual power increments and colour scheme of the Rotolight light output and tactical in the light placement. Along with creative tools I’ve made I can create something totally special and unique.
What is your favourite Rotolight product?
I’ve been an avid fan of the Rotolight NEO 2 for years. So that has been and still is an absolute machine and dream for me to use especially when shooting portraiture.
I’ve finally managed to get my hands on the NEO 3 and AEOS 2 and oh my god, GAME CHANGER! But, to answer your question it has to be the Neo 2, Neo 3 and the Aeos 2 All very good and essential products to my every day and night camera kit.
What advice do you have for people getting into photography?
At times it can be overwhelming with all the camera settings and finding what sort of photography you want to get into. My advice to you is to try everything! It’s all a journey and you’ll hone in on your style over time. The journey is where all the fun stuff is, right?
There’s some great communities and classes out there to join and learn from. You’ll soon find that everyone from the amateurs to pro’s are all on that same journey with you. We’re all in this together!
Final advice. Just go shoot!
Your favourite project you’ve worked on?
I’ve had a few projects over time. I’ve held many exhibitions and like rotolight I’ve used Kickstarter to fund them and gain support. All of my exhibitions have been a great success and I look forward to many more in the future. My current and ongoing project I’m consistently working hard on is Cardiff Shooters. This is a creative photography community I founded in 2018 where I organise local events and meets. From portrait shoots in some prestigious venues to street walks to low light creative events.
How is Rotolight different from other lights you’ve used?
Rotolight has it’s all! They listen to the people in the photography field and accommodate for our needs. The accessories they come out with are amazing and work so well.
What does lighting mean to you in your work?
Lighting is absolutely everything! I love to play with lighting in all aspects of photography and create unique images.
Good lighting is key and Rotolight are the gatekeepers. Trust me!
