Simeon is a visual storyteller and the ultimate creative at heart. Canon ambassador and founder of visual agency VIVIDA, Simeon’s work has taken him around the world, from the city landscapes of New York and Dubai, to the tropical climates of Tanzania. After having trained many of his own team from scratch, VIVIDA has now grown to success across many genres and delivering inspiring content for some of the biggest brands in the world such as Barclays and Unilever. Simeon is an enthusiastic educator, regularly delivering workshops to aspiring filmmakers around the world.
How have the photo and video industries changed since you first started you work?
The thing that’s different now from when I first started is the Internet; I love being able to work with the latest technology – recording 360 of 4k video, and being able to broadcast instantly is so exciting for me.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to get into professional videography?
The market can seem pretty saturated, so it’s vital to know how you want to position yourself; know your strengths and know who you want to appeal to. When you first start out, you may not know what you represent, and that’s fine. Keep playing around with different genres, and you’ll find your voice.
What does the Rotolight range offer your business?
I like my creative options to be as open as possible, so I value something that let’s me explore those spontaneous ideas I get on set. CineSFXTM opened up a whole new world for me, and it’s something that none of my other personal lights offer, especially when paired with gels.
