Peter Müller

Peter Müller is a German photographer and co-owner of NOIRstudio in Frankfurt, alongside Jean Noir. Renowned for his unique and emotive black and white photography, which goes through minimal retouching to capture the most pure and authentic moments. As part of the NOIRstudio, Peter leads workshops around the globe; sharing how he creates emotion and conveys a story in his shots.

 

How did you get into photography?

My father was a photographer and taught me when I was just a little boy – I was only seven years old, I think. He shot with a Voigtlaender Vito B and a Leica M4 and I would help him work in the darkroom. Ever since then, I have carried a camera with me everywhere I go.

How would you define your style?

I like my photography to be as natural as possible; I shoot in black and white in-camera and most of my pictures are completely un-retouched. I don’t like anything that will give my pictures a time stamp – it might look old now, and it might look old in 30 years, but that’s what makes it timeless.

What is your favourite Rotolight product?

We have all three lights installed in our studio, but what I use depends on what and where I’m shooting as I’m often on location too. When I’m in the studio, I usually use Anova PRO 2 or AEOS. I often use the NEO 2 to supplement natural light when I’m shooting alone on location because it’s great to travel with.
