Newsshooter praises the Anova PRO 2 as “at the top of your list” for hybrid shooters

Matthew Allard, ACS accredited cinematographer and Newsshooter technical editor, recently tested the Rotolight Anova PRO 2 in an in-depth review; praising the multitude of features that it offers a broad variety of creatives.

Matt notes in particular the Anova PRO 2’s best-in-class power draw which allows shooters to optimise their time on location: The light draws just 72W watts at 100% output, which gives it a huge advantage over most other battery-powered-capable lights on the market,”he says.“This makes the light a very good proposition for news and documentary shooters who often need to set up lights in remote places and run them off camera batteries. Knowing that you can power the light and get sustained runtime gives you piece of mind if you’re shooting live crosses or long interviews.

Designed for the most demanding of professionals, the Anova PRO 2 delivers both a powerful output of 10,700 lux and High Speed Sync flash (up to 1/8000th) with zero recycle time; making it the perfect light for hybrid shooters who need to shoot promotional stills alongside video content while eliminating the need to purchase two different setups. “If your job calls for both stills and video, or you’re working in multimedia, [the HSS flash capability] alone should put the Anova PRO 2 right at the top of your list of lights to look at,” Matt comments.

The Anova PRO 2 also includes a number of industry-first features, including a full suite of Rotolight’s built-in customisable lighting effects, CineSFXTM, as well as our new Chase function which allows you to simulate movement on a static set. These effects allow creatives to unleash spur of the moment creativity without needing to rely on complex, cumbersome flickerbox workflows, and can be triggered remotely using DMX, RJ45 or a Rotolight Elinchrom HSS Transmitter which interacts with the Anova PRO 2’s built-in Skyport receiver.

“The build quality is superb, and the power output is exceptionally good given the light’s small power draw,” Matt concludes.“For news and documentary shooters, the ability to run the Anova PRO 2 off camera batteries that are under 100Wh for long periods of time is a huge selling point.” The Anova PRO 2 is the light of choice for London’s first fully 4K studio, Celebro, and are lighting both their live studio sets and their OB teams on location due to the flexibility it affords their teams.
