With the help of Master of Light and VFX veteran, Stefan Lange (Mission Impossible, Tomb Raider, Skyfall), Rotolight developed an industry-first suite of customisable lighting FX for filmmakers that eliminates the need to hire expensive, complex flicker-boxes.
Featured in the NEO 2, AEOS and Anova PRO 2 LEDs, CineSFXTMallows you can simulate fire, lighting, gunshots and more at a moment’s notice. “In the past I’d need a hot lamp, a cable to go into the flicker-box, and then the flicker-box itself,” says Stefan. “With this, it’s numerical so I know what I’m getting.” Particularly with the fire and lighting effects, the lighting patterns are procedurally generated to achieve a natural-looking effect.
Lange recently used his own NEO 2 three-light kit on the set of BAFTA-nominated Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool starring Anette Benning (American beauty, The Women, The Search)and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Fantastic Four, 6 Days) which follows the romance between a Hollywood leading lady and a young actor. With budget and logistics not allowing for a moving car on set, CineSFXTM was used to recreate passing street lamps to achieve the effect of movement on a static set.
Filmmakers are seeing the demands on their time, budget and creativity ever increase; with CineSFXTM, your creativity doesn’t have to be limited by cumbersome flicker-box workflows.
